Friends: It’s been an incredible year.

With the support of so many, we’ve remained at camp since August of 2020. The Fairy Creek Blockade at ‘Ada’itsx has been the last defence, standing between industry and our irreplaceable ancient forests. We’ve set a legal precedent in the Supreme Court, with implications for land defenders and civil rights across Canada. As a movement of people, we’ve made sure that old growth protection and Indigenous sovereignty have remained in the news and at the doors of the legislature. We could never have come this far without the love and solidarity of the public, here in B.C. and around the world.

We’re still out here! We’ve been working hard to fortify our winter camp – installing wood stoves, creating shelters, and building up resources. Though logging has slowed for the winter, we need to keep an eye out and maintain our presence before logging picks up in the spring. A small crew of Indigenous land defenders and long haul forest protectors are staying at camp through the winter at the invitation of Pacheedaht Elder Bill and Pacheedaht youth leader Whaletail Jones.

At this time, coming to camp is by invitation only. The public-facing camp known as “Roadside” is now closed. It’s been cold, with snow, ice, high winds, potential flooding, and hazardous conditions. We need to keep our numbers low to keep camp safe and sustainable through the winter.

We’re also taking these slower months to rest, regroup, and strategize our next moves.

Please stay tuned; there will be a public call out when logging resumes in the spring.

In the meantime if you would like to help we are fundraising for the long haulers who have sacrificed so much. If you live in the Greater Victoria area and would like to donate by purchasing a lawn/window sign please sign up here:

https://forms.gle/YTcWHfS2xxWsWsTeA

Suggested donation is 1 sign for $15 or 2 for $25, this covers the costs of production and shipping and the balance goes to the current winter camp fundraiser.

If you are not in Victoria and would like to donate directly here is the link: https://fundrazr.com/OGProtectors?ref=ab_1AmiY8_ab_3AbvY4

Signs can also be provided without a donation! We just want to keep up the pressure and show our elected officials that people want them to PROTECT Old Growth trees.

Please feel free to reach out to me directly if you have questions or would like to get involved in fundraising for the movement.
