CRD Parks is NOW seeking public input on a proposed vision, values, mission statement and priorities for our Regional Parks.
Recently there has been pressure on the CRD Board to ‘balance’ recreational use with conservation. At a time when biodiversity is globally endangered and the CRD has declared a climate emergency in recognition of the need to act to secure a livable future, we must stay the course and keep biodiversity as the primary objective in our parks. Recreation must be managed to be compatible with ‘this’ primary objective.
In the face of rapid population growth and a Covid escalated rise in park use, there is no question that we need to urgently expand our parks system and manage it so that our parks can support our need for recreation, mental health and well-being without destroying the life supporting ecology that we and all life depend on.
MOUNTAIN BIKING, DISC GOLFING, SLACK LINING, AND MANY OTHER HUMAN CENTRED ACTIVITIES ARE VYING FOR ACCESS TO OUR REGIONAL PARKS. WILDLIFE AND ECOSYSTEMS ALSO NEED A VOICE – YOUR VOICE.
BECAUSE – at the end of the day if our park ecology breaks down, and the parks fail…. and Regional Parks after all, are where our regions biodiversity is protected…. then we all fail. This is what the science is telling us. This is what climate youth are asking for. We must do our part here …. in our place on the planet … to protect biodiversity.
PLEASE DO THE SURVEY NOW – STRESS BIODIVERSITY AND ECO-SYSTEM PROTECTION AS THE OVER ARCHING PRIORITY FOR PARK PLANNING AND MANGAGEMENT.

At this time in history it is imperative to protect biodiversity on lands and park lands. Areas that contribute to habitat protection and longevity. The inhabitants will dissappear with the loss of biodiversity, as will the ability for the forests to heal.
Protecting our biodiversity is a must. People should be able to access the parks in a manner that does not impact on this. We were given legs to walk so that would have the least impact on our park lands. We have become spoiled with our need/want for other recreational activities. We need to appreciate the gift of peace and tranquility that our parks offer us. We need to be the voice for all the creatures that inhabit these lands and be grateful and content with what we have. Our lust for consumerism will spell our own demise. Pursuit of other recreational activities should be on previously disturbed lands not in our precious parks. We should also make sure there are no loopholes that enable logging, resource extraction, developments, etc.
I am strongly opposed to allowing mountain bikes in the parks. People ride way too fast, which is extremely disruptive to the animals, as well as causing erosion. There is enough macho energy in the world already – we need quiet, peaceful places where people and animals can relax.
