Barn Swallows, feeding at the tributary in the Colquitz River estuary.
Globally listed under SARA as Threatened, and BC Blue listed status.

How fortunate we are to have these visitors stop by on this flyway.
We must protect these mud flats from disturbances by boaters, dogs, cats, and habitat destruction.
And prevent road runoff from contaminating the sediment where so many species depend on the area.

All of these photos have been taken in Cuthbert Holmes Park, just in the past few days, by Cheryl Redhead and Angela Wyatt.

I am so very pleased about the restoration work that is being done along the banks of the estuary, and the Burke St. sites. This is going to be so attractive to different bird species, both resident and migratory, marine and terrestrial wildlife, fish habitat, and with all the native plants and water channels, a huge increase in invertebrates.

It will also be such a benefit to the humans in the neighbourhood with sight and sound buffers from the interchange traffic.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, Sr. Biologist Sean Wong, Saanich Parks, CRD, Department of Fisheries and Oceans, and local conservation groups have all worked together to make these amazing restorations happen.

Cheers and enjoy !
